MoreEncouraging Active Transportation in Lima
3With a population of over 12 million (and what seems like even more vehicles), the City of Lima has cordoned off 52 blocks of one of the most important streets in the city called Arequipa every Sunday since 2011 in order to encourage active transportation. Bunter Daniel Bragagnini caught a video of the rare and serene moments along Arequipa on a recent trip to Peru. “It was oddly quiet but great to finally get a break from the otherwise conventional noise. At 7AM the persistent honking, whistling from traffic cops, and roaring motorbikes came to an unexpected stop and the street filled with roller bladers, cyclists, and pedestrians of all ages and abilities through to 1PM.”
